Jake recorded these last songs on an audio tape
in his bedroom in the last 15 minutes
before leaving for Africa in May 1999.
He gave this tape to his mother when he left.
He died nine days later in the Great Rift Valley,
not far from where the earliest traces
have been found of the origins of the human species.
